Sit-ups, Push -ups, running and stretching. These are all batteries in the Fitness Gram Test. In class this week, we all participated in this fitness challenge. I feel that this test is a great indicator of ones overall strength and condition. Over the years, I have taken this test on three different occasions. I honestly feel that these test are a great indicator of a persons fitness level. When I become a Physical Educator, I will implement this into my curriculum, and use the results as a baseline to work from.
I agree that these are a great place to start from. When I implemented Fitness Gram testing in a local school while taking Assessment, my cooperating teacher showed me her records of each student's Fitness Gram scores for their entire high school careers. They were tested semi-annually, and were helpful not only in tracking student progress, but also evaluating the effectiveness of her instruction.
ReplyDeleteI agree that fitness testing is a good indicator for the level kids are at. The elementary school I did my observation hours at did fitness testing at the beginning, middle and end of the school year and only saw slight improvements with their kids' results. This year they have completely re-created the master schedule for the school to endure all k-3rd graders go to the gym every day, not just 2 or 3 times a week. They are hoping that the fitness testing scores will greatly improve, as well as see the benefit of regular exercise spill over into the classroom setting with the children being more focused and attentive for the full day.
ReplyDeleteI agree that fitness testing is a good gauge for the levels kids are at. At Alexander Hamilton School where I did my hours at I implemented the fitness test ones in the beginning of the school and towards the end. I feel like if the test is administered correctly than it could be beneficial for individuals who want to strive to be physically active. After collecting the data you could see an increase in participation level and overall performance.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently administering the fitness gram at Kenmore West. I noticed group sizes and time restrained created an issue with the reliability and validity of the test. Do to large class size students have tendency of just estimating scores because it’s hard to make sure every kid follows the same guidelines. If the data is spot on it than 75% of the kids I administered the test on fell in the healthy fitness zone.
Great concepts!!
